Explore Nature’s 7 Wonders

A modern concept with ancient roots: The New 7 Wonders of Nature initiative was born in 2007 as a global campaign that invited millions of people from around the world to vote.

The birth of an international phenomenon: Founded by Swiss adventurer Bernard Weber, the New7Wonders Foundation aimed to foster global unity through awe-inspiring natural beauty.

From wonders to votes: Unlike its ancient counterpart, the New 7 Wonders of Nature were chosen democratically.

The older 7 Natural Wonders: Before the modern initiative, the 7 Natural Wonders of the World included the Grand Canyon.

Why the change was needed: The older list, though remarkable, was never universally agreed upon.

Making the shortlist: The voting process ended on November 11, 2011, after which a list of the Top 77 was released.

Criteria: Ultimately, the New 7 Wonders of Nature were chosen for a combination of factors, including their awe-inspiring beauty.

The winning wonders: The New 7 Wonders of Nature can be found on three of the seven continents, stretched over 16 countries.

The Amazon Rainforest: The Amazon Rainforest, spanning nine nations, generates 20% of the world's oxygen and supports the stability of Earth's climate.

The Amazon Rainforest: Hosting over 10% of the planet's known biodiversity, the Amazon is home to jaguars, sloths, and millions of insects.
