Stan Laurel (1890–1965): Stan Laurel was born Arthur Stanley Jefferson on June 16, 1890, in the small market town of Ulverston in Lancashire, England.

Oliver Hardy (1892–1957): Norvell Hardy, better known as Oliver Hardy, was born on January 18, 1892, in Harlem, Georgia. 

The Lucky Dog' (1921): In 1921, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy both appeared in 'The Lucky Dog,' but not as team.

Putting Pants on Philip' (1927): 'Putting Pants on Philip,' a silent short film made in 1927, was the first official picture that brought the two comedians together as a pair.

The Second Hundred Years' (1927): The same year, 1927, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy appeared opposite each other in 'The Second Hundred Years.

Creative geniuses: Early on in their career, Stan Laurel took an active role behind the scenes. 

Should Married Men Go Home?' (1928): 'Should Married Men Go Home?' was the first Hal Roach film to bill Laurel and Hardy as a comedy double act.

Big Business' (1929): The silent comedy short 'Big Business' saw Stan and Ollie as Christmas tree salesmen who confront a grumpy.

Double Whoopee' (1929): Produced by Hal Roach Studios, 'Double Whoopee' is notable for the brief appearance of Jean Harlow as a "swanky blonde.

'Hollywood Revue of 1929' (1929): The introduction of sound added a whole new dimension to the Laurel and Hardy shorts.
