Sports stars who died too young

Katie Meyer:
On March 2, 2022, Stanford University reported that the captain and goalkeeper of their women's soccer team, Katie Meyer, had passed away at the age of 22.

Jeff Gladney:
He was reportedly involved in a two-car collision in Dallas in the early hours of May 30, 2022.

Kyle Smaine:
Kyle Smaine, a pro freestyle skier who won gold at the Kreischberg 2015 FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships, was recently killed in an avalanche.

Elias Theodorou:
The Canadian mixed martial artist was only 34 years old, and had been battling stage 4 liver cancer in private.

Caleb Swanigan:
According to the Allen County Coroner's Office in Indiana, the former Portland Trail Blazers player passed away from natural causes. 

Anton Walkes:
He was injured when two boats collided in an accident near the Miami Marine Stadium in Florida.

Leandro Lo:
Lo was shot in the head at a concert in São Paulo, Brazil, in the early hours of August 7.

Marion Barber III:
The former football star retired from the NFL 10 years ago, but not before earning the nickname 'Marion the Barbarian.' 

Luke Knox:
Luke Knox, linebacker for the Miami-based university's football team, suddenly passed away at the age of 22. 

Uchechukwu Nwaneri:
Nwaneri joined the Jaguars in 2007 and he spent the bulk of his NFL career in Jacksonville, until he was released in March 2014. 

Chris Davidson:
The 45-year-old athlete reportedly hit his head on the pavement, and though he received treatment at the scene, he passed away in a hospital soon after.
