Stars who survived slipping into a coma

Ozzy Osbourne - Black Sabbath front man Ozzy Osbourne was in a serious quad bike accident in 2003.

Ozzy Osbourne - The singer was in a coma for a number of days after the accident. He has said of it, "The bloody thing nearly [end]ed me. I am lucky to be here today and not paralyzed."

Burt Reynolds - Legendary actor Burt Reynolds struggled with drug addiction at certain points during his life, and he once fell into a coma after he stopped taking his sleep medication cold turkey.

Burt Reynolds - He spent eight or nine hours comatose in a Los Angeles hospital, where he was apparently able to hear doctors saying, "we're losing him" and telling his wife to say goodbye.

Kurt Cobain - Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain slipped into a coma in 1994 after he overdosed on champagne and Rohypnol.

Martin Lawrence - In 1999, Martin Lawrence tried to lose weight for a role by jogging in the heat wearing multiple layers of clothing. When he got home, his temperature was 41.6°C (107°F).

Gary Busey - Actor Gary Busey fell into a coma in 1988 after he was involved in a terrible motorcycle accident.

Gary Busey - He was not wearing a helmet at the time. He suffered a cracked skull, and the doctors thought he might have permanent brain damage. His coma lasted for 33 days.

Stevie Wonder - In 1973, musician Stevie Wonder was involved in a road traffic accident while on tour in North Carolina. His car went into the back of a truck and he fell into a coma.

Stevie Wonder - He remained comatose for four days, and when he woke up he discovered that he had partially lost his sense of smell and temporarily lost his sense of taste.

Jerry Garcia - Grateful Dead front man Jerry Garcia suffered from diabetes and in 1986 he slipped into a diabetic coma that nearly killed him. He remained comatose for five days.

Jerry Garcia - After he came out of the coma, Garcia spoke publicly about his experience of unconsciousness as being surreal. The coma forced him to relearn to play the guitar.

The Game - Rapper The Game fell into a coma in 2001 after he was shot five times.

The Game - His coma only lasted a few days. Reflecting on the experience almost 20 years later, he said that waking up from it was "like waking up from anything."

Shayne Lamas - Reality TV personality Shayne Lamas (daughter of actor Lorenzo Lamas) slipped into a coma in 2014 after she suffered a miscarriage.
