The most painful TV character deaths

Jen Lindley, 'Dawson's Creek' - This role was a springboard to fame for actress Michelle Williams. She dies in a hospital bed.

Will Gardner, 'The Good Wife' - The second-most important character of the show, played by Josh Charles, was unexpectedly  killed after a trial ends in a shooting.

Marissa Cooper, 'The O.C.' - The lead in the series, played by Mischa Barton, couldn't avoid a tragic end either. She dies after being hit by a car.

George O'Malley, 'Grey's Anatomy' - The character played by T.R. Knight jumped in front of a bus to save a little girl and was left badly hurt.

The tenth doctor, 'Doctor Who' - David Tennant was really popular as the tenth Doctor Who, and fans were really let down when his character died.

Lexa, 'The 100' - Played by Alycia Debnam Carey, she was killed by a stray bullet. 

Matthew Crawley, 'Downton Abbey' - Played by Dan Stevens, this character survived the war, but dies in a car accident after his child's birth. Nobody was happy

Tara Maclay, 'Buffy - The Vampire Slayer - In her final episode this witch is shot. Tara (Amber Benson) dies in the arms of her girlfriend, Willow. To this day a lot of people haven't gotten over it.

Lexie Grey, 'Grey's Anatomy' - Meredith's sister, played by Chyler Leigh, dies in a plane accident. It was hard to hold back the tears, especially after Mark Sloan's declaration of love.

Ben Sullivan, 'Scrubs' - Ben died from a sudden heart attack during the third season after suffering from leukemia. He was played by Brendan Fraser.

Charlie Pace, 'Lost' - He sacrificed himself to save his friends and leave an important message for the survivors.

Alaric Saltzman, 'Vampire Diaries' - The history professor (Matthew Davis) came back to the series, but the first time he left was painful!
