Where to admire the beauty of the pagoda

Japan: The Horyu-Ji Buddhist temple in Irakuga is a five-story pagoda built in the 7th century. It's one of the oldest wooden buildings in the world.

Vietnam: Graceful and elegant on the eye, the Tran Quoc Pagoda dates back to the 6th century and is the oldest pagoda in Hanoi.

Myanmar: The astonishing Shwedagon Pagoda is also known as the Golden Pagoda for its gilded patina. 

China: The Three Pagodas of the Chongsheng Temple rise like needles from an emerald landscape near the old town of Dali. 

Taiwan: A highlight of any visit to Kaohsiung is to pause at the city's Lotus Lake and gaze upon the quirky Dragon and Tiger Pagodas. 

Thailand: Visitors to the beautiful Huay Pla Kang Temple in Chiang Rai are regaled by a gleaming nine-tier pagoda guarded by a pair of serpentine dragons.

Indonesia: The decorative Avalokitesvara Pagoda stands as part of a Buddhist temple complex in Semarang. 

Malaysia: Located in an especially scenic area of the Genting Highlands, the lofty Chin Swee Caves Temple is pinpointed by an ornamented pagoda.

South Korea: Bulguksa Temple on the slopes of Mount Toham is renowned for its cherished stone pagodas one of which, Seokgatap, is pictured here, decorated with flowers. 

England: The Great Pagoda at the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew in London was completed in 1762 for Princess Augusta, the founder of the gardens.
