IUCAA:- INTER-UNIVERSITY CENTRE FOR ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS

The Inter-University Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) is an independent foundation set up by the University Grants Commission to advance nucleation and development of dynamic gatherings in cosmology and astronomy in Indian colleges. IUCAA is situated in the University of Pune grounds alongside the National Center for Radio Astrophysics, which works the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope. IUCAA has grounds structured by Indian engineer Charles Correa.

After the establishment of the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) by Prof. Govind Swarup, a typical research office for space science and astronomy was proposed by Dr. Yash Pal of the arranging commission. Taking a shot at this thought, astrophysicist Prof. Jayant Narlikar, alongside Ajit Kembhavi and Naresh Dadhich set up IUCAA inside the Pune University grounds in 1988.

In 2002, IUCAA started an across the national crusade to promote cosmology and astronomy in schools and colleges. IUCAA orchestrated guest programs for colleges in Nagpur (Maharashtra), Thiruvalla (Kerala), Siliguri (West Bengal) and others, alongside a tie-up with the Ferguson school, Pune.
