MASER full form

MASER:- Microwave Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation

Microwave Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation is a device which produces and amplifies the radiations i.e., electromagnetic radiation that mainly belongs to the microwave region of the spectrum of energy. The MASER also operates on the basis of the same basic principle as of the LASER which stands for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation and it also shares many characteristics of the LASER. The first MASER comes into existence in the year 1953 and it was founded by the physicist of America whose name is physicist Charles H. Townes with the help of his colleagues. They also derived its acronym from Microwave (or Molecular) Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.

An oscillator of MASER requires a source which excites the atoms or molecules and a resonator which will store their radiation. Modern MASER is designed in a way that it is able to generate electromagnetic waves not only at microwave frequencies but also at radio and infrared frequencies
