NPP:- National Population Policy
NPP stands for National Population Policy. After the adoption of the National Health Policy by the government in 1983, which gave importance to a small family norm and the goal of population stabilization, the Parliament pressed the need for a separate National Population Policy. Following this, the National Development Council appointed a Committee on Population in 1991 under the chairmanship of Karunakaran, which submitted its report two years later. The National Population Policy was intended to be formulated to take a long-term view of development, population growth, and environmental protection and to implement policies and guidelines for the formulation of programs. After an Expert Group headed by M.S. Swaminathan had prepared the draft of a national population policy, it finally came into force in 2000. It states that the objective of NPP is to address the unmet needs for contraception, healthcare infrastructure, and to provide integrated service delivery for basic reproductive and child healthcare.
