UNCLOS:- United Nations Conference on Law of the Sea

UNCLOS stand for United Nations Convention on Law of the Sea. It is also known as the Law of the Sea Convention or the Law of the Sea Treaty. It is the international agreement which was a result of the third United Nations Conference on the Law of the Seas, which took place between 1973 and 1982. The Law of Seas Treaty defines the rights and responsibilities of the nations with respect to their uses of the world’s oceans, establishing the guidelines for businesses, the environment, and the management of natural resources. As of June 2016, 167 countries and the European Union have joined this convention. The three United Nations Conference on the Law of the Seas deliberated on all aspects of the usage of world’s oceans and clearly demarcated the various aspects of the oceans like Territorial waters, Internal Waters, Contiguous Zones, Exclusive Economic Zones, Continental shelves, Archipelagic waters etc.
