IATA:- International Air Transport Association
IATA stands for the International Air Transport Association. It is the trade association for the airlines of the world. It supports aviation activities and helps in formulating policies on aviation issues. IATA is led by Alexandre de Juniac, Director General and CEO. It was founded on 19 April 1945 in Havana, Cuba with headquarters in Montreal, Canada. It consists of 290 airlines and represents 117 countries. It has a board of governors which functions as its government. They exercise and execute plans on behalf of the whole association.
Safety is the first priority for IATA and IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) is said to be the main instrument for safety. IATA leads and serves the airline industry developing the global standards on which the airline industry is built. It ensures the safety and efficient operation of airlines under clearly defined rules. It works for the improvement of fuel efficiency and reduction in net aviation carbon emissions as well.
