NMEP:- National Malaria Eradication Programme
NMEP stands for National Malaria Eradication Programme. It was launched on 1 July 1947 in the United States. Malaria is an infectious disease which is mosquito-borne and affects humans and other animals. Symptoms of Malaria include tiredness, fever, vomiting, and headaches. In severe cases, it can also cause coma, yellow skin, seizures, or even death. Symptoms usually begin after ten to fifteen days after the person is bitten by an infected mosquito. If proper treatment isn’t given, the disease can reoccur within months. Before the establishment of the NMEP, malaria had been an epidemic in most of the United States. By the beginning of the 1930s, it had become concentrated in about 13 southeastern states. This program taken up to eradicate Malaria from the United States was quite successful. With the participation of the state and the locals, the program succeeded in fully eradicating malaria in the United States by 1951.
