RDSO:- Research Design and Standard Organization
RDSO stands for Research Design and Standard Organization. It is a research and development organization. It is a part of the Ministry of Railways, Government of India. Its function is giving technical and consulting advice to the Railway Board, the Railway Production Units, the Zonal Railways, RITES and IRCON International regarding design and standardization of the equipment of railways. It is also regarding the problems related to railway construction, maintenance and operation. It started construction in the year 1921. It was completed in the year 1936. The floor area is of 8 acres. The architect was Sir Edwin Lutyens. The Indian Railway Conference Association (IRCA) was set up in 1903 to enforce standardization and coordination between various railway systems in India during British times. This was followed by the Central Standards Office (CSO) being established in 1930. It was established for preparing designs, standards, and specifications.
