SSN, which stands for Social Security Number, is a nine-digit number issued in the United States of America to all of its citizens, and its permanent and temporary residents in accordance to the regulations given in the constitution. This number is issued by the Social Administration Division, which is an independent agency of the government. The numbers were first issued in November 1935, as part of the Social Security Administration’s New Deal Social Security program. This initiative was carried out in order to track the individuals’ accounts registered within the Social Security program.
